Operations Manager, DC Operations
Toronto, Ontario

“Work hard, adapt as things change and have a positive attitude. Everything you put forth will make its way back to you and your accomplishments will be acknowledged and rewarded.”

What is your current role within your team?
I am currently responsible for the day to day Operations of the Canada DCs with several leads and Supervisors reporting into me.

How has your career grown since starting at PFS?
I started as a picker in the DC as I put myself through college before applying for and getting an analyst position within Program Management. Within three months I was promoted to Sr. Analyst with an eventual promotion to Program Manager where I stayed for a large part of my tenure at PFS. Earlier this year I came full circle back to my first love as I was promoted to Operations Manager to oversee the DC facilities in Canada.

What are your favorite hobbies/interests outside of work?
I am an avid gamer, which works well in the time of COVID-19 as it still allows me to connect with my friends online. I am also a huge baseball fan and love nothing more than sitting watching a game with the family.

Who at PFS inspires you to succeed at your job and why?
My team inspires me to succeed. It is their hard work that makes me want to work just as hard for them to ensure they have everything they need to continue the success we have been able to manage together.

What are some of your favorite things about coming to work every day?
The people here at PFS are my favorite thing about coming to work. I have been lucky enough to develop some great relationships over the years with people here across many departments. Together we have watched each other grow as people both professionally and personally to the point where a young friend who I had the privilege of watching grow up has now spent a summer working for me in the DC during her University summer break.

What experiences/challenges in your life best prepared you for your job at PFS?
Growing up with immigrant parents that worked tirelessly to provide for myself and my sister, to give us everything that Canada had to offer, gave me the best framework to prepare me for my job at PFS. It was that example of hard work and family values that enables me to do my job well and connect with my team to ensure success.

In what positive ways are you challenged at PFS?
PFS has allowed and encouraged me to take the initiative and solve issues rather than always blindly follow. This has allowed me to grow professionally in ways that other places would not allow. Being allowed to succeed on my own but knowing that support is always available when needed is very empowering.

What is the most unexpected benefit of working at PFS?
We are a big family. From the potluck lunches to simple chats about life and what is going on in the world with colleagues, the PFS team makes a workday that is much more enjoyable.

Work hard, adapt as things change and have a positive attitude. Everything you put forth will make its way back to you and your accomplishments will be acknowledged and rewarded.

What do you like about working in eCommerce?
eCommerce is always evolving, affording new opportunities each day. This makes it an exciting industry to be a part of.

Employee Spotlight - Kevin Campbell

Kevin Campbell

General Manager, DC Operations
Memphis, Tennessee

“The sky is the limit on how much you can grow in this company, so long as you work hard at it.”

When did you start at PFS?
This is my 22nd year at PFS. I started in November 1998.

What is your role within your team?
I am responsible for the day-to-day operations for our Memphis DCs, with four managers who report to me. I am the liaison between the operations team and the senior directors.

Who at PFS inspires you to succeed at your job and why?
My team. They are all heart and are always willing to go the extra mile to get the job done. It is always rewarding to do your job and hit your numbers and my team makes that possible. It takes a lot of stress off me. I also gain inspiration from Steve Smith. He is a mentor. He will guide you, show you the silver lining and provide the support you need to be successful.

What experiences/challenges in your life best prepared you for your job at PFS?
The skills I learned in the military are easily transferable to the work I do at our distribution center: structure, discipline, understanding the importance of following directions, because there was a lot at stake if there was a variation from the plan. Also the team aspect of knowing that everyone who’s assigned to you becomes your family – you learn to truly care for the people who report to you.

In what positive ways are you challenged at PFS?
There are no boundaries on what we can accomplish here. Whatever you want to do, you can do it, whether it’s helping with additional projects or building new client solutions. You can be as involved as you want to be, because our leadership encourages everyone to take the initiative and think outside the box.

What are your favorite hobbies/interests outside of work?
Fishing is my passion. When not at home or work you’ll find me at a nearby lake or river fishing.  I am also a mechanic by trade. I enjoy working on my truck.

How has your career grown since starting at PFS?
I started as a part-time forklift operator in the receiving area putting away inbound shipments. I went from part-time to full-time in about a month. Within six months I was promoted to Team Leader for the returns area and eventually became the supervisor. From there I was promoted to Inbound Manager and later Senior Manager. Currently I am the General Manager of our Memphis DCs.

What is the most unexpected benefit of working at PFS?
The family atmosphere we have on our team. I will never forget how they supported me and my family when my wife suddenly passed away in 2018. Starting with our CEO Mike Willoughby, our SVP Operations Steve Smith, down to my peers, everyone showed their unconditional support of me and my family.

What advice would you give a person starting at PFS?
Take full advantage of every opportunity given to you. It’s not about the position you’re hired for – it’s based on showing up to work and sharing your value with the team. The sky is the limit on how much you can grow in this company, so long as you work hard at it.

In five words or less, how would you describe what working at PFS means to you?
Rewarding, challenging, teamwork and family

Employee Spotlight - Diana Garcia

Diana Garcia

QA & Training Sr. Manager, Customer Contact Center
Dallas, Texas

“You have to be ready to make an impact and willing to take a chance on learning something new!”

When did you start at PFS?
A while ago, June 2003.

What is your role within your team?
My focus is to provide quality training for our agents and leadership team. Our department provides onboarding as well as recursive training to ensure we deliver amazing customer service. When I’m not training, I’m involved with ramp-up plans, action plans and new initiatives across the contact center. We are constantly evolving and growing, so it keeps me on my toes.

What experiences/challenges in your life best prepared you for your job at PFS?
Being a leader at PFS is such a great responsibility and we wear so many hats: We’re motivators, counselors and change agents. The most important hat is that of a leader, because we have so many teams that depend on us. I learned very early in my career with PFS that change is driven by those who choose to take the initiative and make an impact. You have to find that drive within yourself to keep moving and keep searching for solutions. I could never give up on my PFS family!

I am also a proud single parent of one, which has involved a lot of responsibility and very hard decisions. Nothing prepares you to be a parent, but it has been the most rewarding event of my life. My child is 20 now, and although there were hard times, I never let my child see me defeated. As I said, you have to find that drive within yourself to keep moving and keep searching for solutions!

In what positive ways are you challenged at PFS?
Where do I start! I’m challenged every day by making decisions that impact so many departments. I must be analytical and see things from different perspectives. My leadership skills are constantly put to the test to ensure my team is motivated to deliver results.

What are your favorite hobbies/interests outside of work?
I love to dance to just about anything – the more challenging, the better. I also love to travel. It’s always interesting to see and learn about different cultures and experience different parts of the world.

What is your fondest memory from your time at PFS so far?
Wow! There are so many. I’ve practically grown up at PFS. I will never forget the many times we’ve had to come together to answer phones to ensure our clients are taken care of. Our busy fourth quarter peaks each bring a different element or challenge that makes us grow each year. It has been quite the journey!

What has been the most rewarding project you’ve worked on so far at PFS?
The most rewarding project recently has been contributing to the deployment plan for our team during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was challenging to transition our agents to a work-from-home model for the first time, but it’s been very rewarding to see them thrive in this new environment. Prior to that, another rewarding project was launching the TOMS customer care solution, which was the fastest implementation we’ve ever done in the contact center. The client is so giving, so it was a pleasure to be part of that.

What was your role when you started at PFS?
Oh wow – that was so long ago! My first role was as a customer service representative.

What advice would you give a person starting at PFS?
You have to be ready to make an impact and willing to take a chance on learning something new!

In five words or less, how would you describe what working at PFS means to you?
Continuous growth and endless opportunities.

What do you like about working in eCommerce?
The possibilities within eCommerce are endless and there’s an infinite number of opportunities to grow. You can never get complacent; you have to continually evolve into something new. I’m always up for the challenge!

What is your fondest memory from your time at PFS so far?
This one is easy. The opportunity to move to the U.S. It was a challenge to make it happen with all the legal obstacles but was so worth it.

What is special about the team you work with?
Widespread. Most of my small team is in Europe. I do not get to see them a lot but Teams is a great tool on a daily basis! We could think that 7 hours difference is a problem for interactions but it is not at all. It actually helps having the work done right in many ways!

How has your career grown since starting at PFS?
Very unexpected. I started with a logistics background with an interest in ERP in Inventory Control and barely 2 years after, I was asked to move to the IT dept and implement new European clients! Then, travel to all facilities worldwide and ended up relocating 5000-miles away!

What are some of your favorite things about coming to work every day?
The in-person interactions with my Team (opposed to virtual ones) and a good workout (I ride my bicycle as often as I can to go to the office.)

What do you like about working in eCommerce?
It never stops changing! The world is barely embracing eCommerce and we can see it now more than ever.

Employee Spotlight - Stephanie Klein

Stephanie Klein

Senior Manager, Business Management
Southampton, United Kingdom

“You are seen as the expert in the industry and your clients rely on you knowing what will help them grow or how to create a better customer experience.”

What PFS office do you work out of?
London/Southampton

What is your role within your team?
I work to grow a strong relationship with my clients by strategically engaging with them on their roadmap, analyzing trends within the industry, and delivering business cases on solutions that could provide cost-saving opportunities or operational improvement. Whether its advocating for my clients internally or working with my team to deliver reporting metrics, my role is to ensure client satisfaction by having a deep understanding of what PFS can do to help their business grow.

Who at PFS inspires you to succeed at your job and why?
The operational team members in our Contact Center, Warehouse, and Credit departments who work incredibly hard to hit pressured timelines and have difficult conversations to make our client’s customers happy. I have a lot of respect for them; their daily dedication inspires me to strive for continuous improvement because without them, we would not be the company we are today.

In what positive ways are you challenged at PFS?
I am constantly challenged to think outside the box while reprioritizing and re-evaluating my max level of output because the industry evolves so rapidly. With this in mind, I have to always be at the top of my game – following trends, seeking opportunities, and understanding the impact of my actions.

What are your favorite hobbies/interests outside of work?
Listening to podcasts – anything by Gimlet Media, This American Life, or Freakonomics Radio. Building puzzles, running, and hanging out with friends!

What is special about the team you work with?
I am so proud of my team! They have overcome quite a few challenges, but their dedication to learning and their client-first mentality has never wavered. I appreciate the unique loyalty they have towards the team in order to improve each other’s knowledge; when one person has an issue, they all jump in to help solve it. Even when days are stressful there is never a shortage of jokes, memes, and positive attitudes.

How has your career grown since starting at PFS?
During my 2nd year of working at PFS, I was offered the chance to relocate to our Belgium office on a temporary assignment. Working in such a culturally charged environment allowed me to experience a completely different part of PFS as well as gain a new perspective on international business. I enjoyed working in Europe so much that I stayed four more years and moved to the UK, solidifying my PFS cross-geography expertise and got to work on projects across multiple departments.

What advice would you give a person starting at PFS?
Things move quickly. We are constantly strategizing, preparing for the next promotion, project, or business opportunity to meet the needs of the market. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, take a lot of notes, and familiarize yourself with how things work so you can identify opportunities of where things can be improved for the better.

What are some of your favorite things about coming to work every day?
No two days are ever the same – I am constantly learning from my colleagues, my clients and the consumer. One aspect that I enjoy and find unique to PFS is the comradery and fun culture of the company. I have made so many great friends independent of age, background, or location that support me through work and life. They encourage me to try new things, test my boundaries, and look out for my wellbeing.

In five words or less, how would you describe what working at PFS means to you?
Personal and professional growth

What do you like about working in eCommerce?
I love working in eCom because it’s new, ever-changing and you can only learn by experiencing it versus studying it in school. I also find it’s potential to defy the law of Supply and Demand exciting. It is hard to forecast the impact of consumer behavior when macro or micro level changes are introduced in the environment; especially when each generation changes the game on how they interact with brands.

Employee Spotlight Sreelesh Kappatan

Sreelesh Kappatan

Solutions Architect, ERP
Bangalore, India

“There is always something new to learn and the career prospects are endless in this rapidly growing industry.”

What PFS office do you work out of?
Bangalore, India

What is your role within your team?
As a Solutions Architect I provide technical leadership, work on designs and provide technical solutions. In addition, I enjoy conducting R&D on complex technical problems like API integrations with client ERP systems. I manage the ERP team in Bangalore which includes 14 developers working in collaboration with the ERP team at our Allen headquarters.

Who at PFS inspires you to succeed at your job and why?
First, the core technical team members at headquarters who have tremendous experience. Their approach to problems and their problem solving skills inspire me. My second source of inspiration is the team management by PFS BU India director, Ganesh Baba, who has great leadership traits. He genuinely cares about people and brings the best out of us. He always teaches us to stay focused and goal oriented, no matter what impediments come our way.

In what positive ways are you challenged at PFS?
Ecommerce is very dynamic. PFS deals with a large number of customers whose business models differ from one to the other. I’ve worked on many projects and encountered several challenges, especially in terms of technology changes that come along very quickly. Our team continuously rises to the challenge, driving research and development activities to find suitable solutions to these technical challenges. Through this work, the India ERP team has become the go-to team for such API developments, which I see as a huge win.

What are your favorite hobbies/interests outside of work?
I have a 6-year-old son with whom I like to spend a lot of time playing various games, NOT video games, of course! Additionally, the majority of my free time is spent doing a lot of reading and travelling, which I am very passionate about. And of course, for any Indian, playing and watching cricket is part of life, I enjoy that too.

What is your fondest memory from your time at PFS so far?
We started as a small team at this location and were handling small projects. As time passed, the team grew in size and experience so that now we are able to handle complex projects. Therefore, my fondest memory is when the ERP India team got our first opportunity to take complete responsibility of a big, complex project and it was implemented successfully. The way we continuously grow in this organization is remarkable to me.

What is special about the team you work with?
I work with a fantastic team; it is a highly mature and talented group of developers who are technically capable, functionally strong, highly dedicated and hardworking. I also have a great leader who always guides, advises and corrects me whenever I am in need, while also being a great motivator for the entire team. The headquarters team with whom we work is an awesome, highly talented and highly collaborative team with great experience. In short, I would say that if I am able to contribute anything at all, it is only because I am part of this great team both locally and at our headquarters.

What was your role when you started at PFS?
I joined PFS as a Technical Architect, mainly working on development and testing activities, and gradually moved into design. From day one I’ve enjoyed working with my team on both technical and functional aspects to ensure projects are delivered on time and with the highest quality.

What is the most unexpected benefit of working at PFS?
Prior to working at PFS, I was completely immersed in technical roles. At PFS, I was given the opportunity to take on the responsibilities of project and people management in addition to my technical responsibilities. This, I would say, was an unexpected benefit. I have also learned a lot of leadership, team management and resource management skills under the mentorship of my manager – a dream come true for me.

In five words or less, how would you describe what working at PFS means to you?
Proud, Engaging, Collaborative, Learning and Exciting.

What do you like about working in eCommerce?
Huge learning potential. There is always something new to learn and the career prospects are endless in this rapidly growing industry.
